Something sweet to celebrate! Gretchen Rossi and her fiancé, Slade Smiley, rang in their first child’s impending arrival with a Sunday, May 19, baby shower.
“We are so excited about the big day celebrating Skylar Grey,” the Real Housewives of Orange County alum, 40, said on her Instagram Story while getting her hair and makeup done ahead of the baby bash. “We are going to pop champagne, but I have to drink my fabulous water. … I wish I was drinking champagne.”
The former reality star and Smiley, 45, announced in December 2018 on an episode of The Doctors that they have a little one on the way after struggling to conceive.
“There was plenty of times during the process that we were like, ‘Is this ever going to happen? Is this ever going to come to fruition?’” the Alaska native, who shares sons Gavin and Grayson with his ex-wife, Rosie, said at the time.
In February of that same year, Rossi opened up to Us Weekly exclusively about undergoing IVF. “Physically it was difficult on my body. It’s funny because when you get pregnant, and you gain weight, it feels worth it because at the end, you have a baby,” she told Us. “But when I went through IVF, I gained 10 pounds within three weeks and I’ve never done that before in my life. I got cellulite in places that I’ve never had cellulite before.”
The pregnant star and her fiancé announced in April that they have already chosen a name for their daughter — Skylar Grey.
“It was so interesting because when I told Slade [about Skylar], it was so cute to see his reaction to it,” Rossi told Access in April. “He was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, I love the name Skylar.’ He immediately took to the name.”
She added that the baby-to-be’s middle name has a “family tie-in,” explaining, “One day, we both kind of looked at each other and started thinking about his son, Grayson, who is sick. And he has been this, just, angel on earth. And he’s this little unbreakable, amazing little man.”
