But there are some home treatments you can use that might help to prevent some types of hair loss, including alopecia.

One of the easiest ways to stimulate hair growth at home is to add more eggs to your diet, it’s been claimed.

Eggs are one of the best foods to protect against hair loss, according to nutritionist Ryan Raman.

They’re rich in both protein and biotin, which are crucial to maintaining healthy locks.

Protein is needed to support healthy hair follicles, whereas biotin is used for the production of keratin.

Keratin is a particularly type of protein that’s found in the hair, and is an essential part of their chemical make-up.

“Many people want strong and healthy hair, especially as they grow older,” Raman wrote for medical website Healthline.

“Although you can’t change factors like age and genetics, diet is one thing you have control over. In fact, consuming a diet lacking the right nutrients can lead to hair loss.

“Eggs are a great source of protein and biotin, two nutrients that may promote hair growth.

“Eggs are also a great source of zinc, selenium and other hair-healthy nutrients. This makes them one of the best foods to consume for optimal hair health.”

Adding more eggs to your diet will also increase the amount of ‘good’ HDL cholesterol in your body.

They’ve also been claimed to reduce your risk of having a stroke, nutritionists have claimed.

Meanwhile, you could also protect against hair loss by eating more avocado, added Raman.

Avocado contains vitamin E, which has been found to promote hair growth, he said.

Losing your hair isn’t necessarily something to be worried about.

But on rare occasions, it could be a tell-tale sign of another medical condition.

You should speak to a doctor if you suddenly start losing your hair, or if you develop bald patches.

There are other treatments for hair loss – including transplants – but they aren’t available on the NHS, and you’ll need to pay for them.
