The Best New Sex Toys That Rocked Our World In 2020

In terms of trend forecasting for the last year, there was a lot to get wrong. Who would’ve anticipated a global pandemic totally restructuring how we eat, sleep, work and, uh, [insert grown-up non-sleep activities here]? But, for all we got wrong, 2020 was, as predicted, totally the year of the vibrator.

Thankfully, sex tech and sex toy industries have totally blossomed in recent years and this past year saw a totally awesome line-up of hot new toys dropping steadily from January to December. But which toys stood above the rest?

Reviewing (and re-reviewing) some of the best toys we picked up and tried out in the last year, here’s our picks for 2020’s best new sex toys. Don’t let the EOY keep you from starting 2021 off right with one of these bad boys.

Best New Wand: LELO Smart Wand 2

A hefty wand  that any lover of strong vibrations will want in their collection, LELO’s Smartwand 2 is great for getting off and giving some TLC to the rest of your sore body (yes, it’s a massager that can be used to massage your whole bod),

Honorable mentions: We-Vibe’s Wand was a close second for a number of reasons — it’s comfortable, curved design and attachments (plus being waterproof, cordless and quiet) make it a totally worthwhile alternative for wand lovers who maybe want something a bit smaller.

Best New G-Spot: We-Vibe Nova 2

We-Vibe Nova 2 was a stand-out of all the dual-stimulation, rabbit-style vibes that came across my doorstep in 2020. Unbelievably soft (like bordering on fluffy?) texture, a powerful variety of rumbles and vibrations and a shape that is curved and wide in all the right places, it’s a totally great pick for newbies and experienced toy collectors alike.

Honorable mentions: From Spencer’s OONA collection, I was pleasantly surprised by Joy — a heated, rechargeable rabbit that has made chilly mornings/nights a lot hotter.

Best High-Tech Vibe: LELO Ora 3

A late addition to my 2020 sex toy try-its, LELO’s Ora 3 (an oral sex mimicking toy) wormed its way into my heart. I stand by my assessment that it’s a toy that requires a bit more patience and a willingness to roll along with some slow-burn sensations, but I also can’t get over the extremely natural, finger or tongue-like feeling it creates.  10/10 this one hits on the right side of the Uncanny Valley as far as lifelike toys go.

Honorable mentions: Another offering from high-tech brand Lora Dicarlo, Osé 2 is a dual stimulating robotic toy with the best of both the suction and finger/tongue-like rotation stimulation.

Best Value: Oona Awaken

My favorite of Spencer’s OONA line, Awaken is like the hot older sister of your favorite bullet. Like it’s bigger than you’d think when I use the word “bullet” to describe it and has a ton of different intensities to ride. The tip is a great shape for resting along your clitoris and the body-safe silicone also makes it totally friendly for internal stimulation as well.

It is currently out of stock, but is absolutely one I’d recommend you add to your list if/when it makes a return.

Honorable mentions: Okay, TBH, most of Spencer’s OONA line qualifies here — the roll-out featured such a great mix of different toy designs and concepts that you’d spot from pricey retailers for a fraction of the price.

Best New Clitoral Stimulator: Unbound’s Puff

This tiny little guy from Unbound became a bedside BFF this fall. Puff is a small and quiet air-powered suction toy that is great for clitoral and nipple stimulation and it’s so totally whisper quiet that you have no worries if you’re just trying to squeeze out some “me”-time in a crowded AF house. Comfortable and easy to use, it also has a pretty lengthy life per charge. I love it so, so much.

Honorable mentions: This year and the last few years have been totally awesome for clitoral stimulator sex toys. There’s been a beautiful uptick in breezy air technology to make suction and sonic power the new gold standard. Close contenders for the top spot included LELO Sila (which we went off about at-length earlier this year) and Lily Allen’s take on Womanizer Liberty. They may suck but they certainly don’t suck, you know?
