Hair loss treatment: The herbal supplement shown to significantly improve hair loss

Hair loss treatments that involve some form of surgery are usually expensive and off-putting so natural solutions seem more appealing. The problem is, there isn’t a great deal of evidence that demonstrates the efficacy of natural supplements. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule.

  • Hair loss treatment: The supplement proven to prevent hair loss

One organic remedy that has shown encouraging results is fenugreek extract.

The extract from the Mediterranean herb can be taken as a supplement or applied topically.

One study in particular demonstrates fenugreek’s ability to stimulate hair growth.

In a study by Schulz C, Bielfeldt S, Reimann J, researchers tested the efficacy of Fenugreek extract and various micronutrients as a potential treatment for hair loss.

This research involved 60 volunteer participants (i.e. 30 men and 30 women) who showed early to moderate stages of hair loss.

They ingested capsules containing fenugreek extract and other micronutrients, twice a day. The experiment lasted for six months.

One group of participants received a placebo.

In the study, neither the researchers administering the treatments nor the participants knew whether the capsules contained the placebo or the combination of ingredients that included fenugreek.

Every two months, the researchers examined the participants for signs of hair growth and collected data on their findings.

Their methodology included questionnaires, a dermatological assessment and a phototrichogram, an image analysis tool that helps assess hair growth patterns & treatment responses.

At the end of the clinical trial, the researchers found a significant improvement in hair loss.

They also noticed a greater number of follicles at the anagen stage.

The anagen stage is the active or “growing” phase of the hair growing cycle.

Within the group of subjects treated with fenugreek, 82.9 percent reported a positive and noticeable difference in hair volume and thickness.

Also, 74.3 percent reported better resistance to hair shedding. The placebo group showed no changes.

The researchers attribute fenugreek’s hair-growing benefits to increasing blood flow to the skin’s surface.

Research published in the Journal of Medicinal Plant Research also suggests fenugreek can help to prevent hair loss due to its high protein content.

Other ways to treat hair loss

According to the NHS, Finasteride and minoxidil are the main over-the counter treatments for male pattern baldness.

Male pattern baldness is a type of permanent hair loss that runs in the family.

“Minoxidil can also be used to treat female pattern baldness. Women shouldn’t use finasteride,” it adds.
