Prince Harry has that new dad glow! The royal was all smiles outside Windsor Castle in England on Monday, May 6, shortly after his wife, Duchess Meghan, gave birth to their first child.
Harry, 34, beamed from ear to ear while speaking to reporters following Buckingham Palace’s announcement that he and Meghan, 37, welcomed a 7 pound, 3 ounce son at 5:26 a.m. local time. Harry was present for the baby’s arrival, and the Suits alum’s mother, Doria Ragland, joined the couple at their new home, Frogmore Cottage, to meet her first grandchild.
The palace said in a statement that Meghan (née Markle) and her son “are both doing well.” Other members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla, Prince William and Duchess Kate, “have been informed and are delighted with the news,” according to the statement.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met in London in July 2016 and started dating soon after. He proposed in November 2017, and they married at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May 2018. Kensington Palace announced five months later that Meghan, who was previously married to director Trevor Engelson from 2011 to 2013, was pregnant and due in the spring of 2019.
In the lead-up to Baby Sussex’s arrival, Buckingham Palace revealed that Harry and Meghan made “a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.” The announcement indicated that the retired actress would forgo posing with her newborn on the hospital steps, breaking a long-standing royal tradition that William, 36, and Kate, 37, followed with their three children: Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 12 months.
