Covid cases have torn the UK apart for more than a year now, with infections starting as a slow trickle before washing over millions of people. The latest figures show cases total 4,775,301 with a devastating 128,126 deaths. But only one of these values has exponentially nudged up in recent weeks, showing how vaccines have crippled the disease’s method of attack.
When the Government established Test and Trace and started tracking the disease, cases and deaths moved in unison.
For example, between September and December 2020, officials noted more than 25,000 cases per day.
Deaths would rise in kind roughly two weeks following each peak.
When cases approached 30k, daily deaths would push up to roughly 600.
As 2021 rolls around and the UK sees its deadliest peak, daily infections approached 75,000.
Deaths then followed to nearly 2,000 before the UK’s vaccine programme hit early targets.
The data shows, without protection, the disease is at its deadliest.
But it also shows how the vaccine has broken Covid’s relationship with death.
Currently, infections have grown to top 20,000 per day, with the latest totals at 20,479.
The success of the UK’s vaccine programme has kept deaths at trace levels.
The programme has broken the disease’s relationship with death, as authorities recorded just 23 fatalities on June 29.
While the number is rising, it is doing so slowly, and the current trend is encouraging.

The latest official figures show the vaccine programme has had incredible success.
A total of 44,581,771 people have had their first Covid jab, giving them protection from more than 60 percent of cases.
Another 32,721,762 people follow with their second jab, providing them with more than 90 percent protection.
Although they are also rising, hospitalisation rates also show how effective the vaccine programme has proven.
Most of those requiring hospital treatment are under 40.
Given the vaccine started with the oldest and most vulnerable first, many of those currently in hospital have yet to receive their second dose.
In May, NHS Providers chief executive Chris Hopson said up to 75 percent of hospitalisations were under 45.
He said this had an impact on critical care by removing some of the pressure on hospitals.
Mr Hopson said: “What they’re finding is that a much higher proportion of patients are actually being dealt with, and are being treated, in general and acute beds.
“So, as well as smaller numbers compared to the January and February, there’s actually lower levels of acuity, and there’s less pressure on critical care.”
Scientists believe older people admitted have been offered a second jab but have not taken it up.
