The current gold standard is a naslopharyngeal swab but researchers led Anne Wylie, Ph.D., at the Yale School of Public Health, in collaboration with Shelli Farhadian, MD, Ph.D., at Yale School of Medicine have identified saliva as a more reliable and accurate means of diagnostic testing. The potential impact of this sampling method could allow many more Americans to be tested for the coronavirus.
