In terms of clinical trials, expectant mothers don’t enrol in the beginning of coronavirus studies, but some do fall pregnant during the process. They are then “followed very, very carefully”, said Professor Van-Tam. However, as the number of women falling pregnant during coronavirus trials is small, there is limited evidence at present of any adverse effects of the vaccine. “We don’t believe it’s unsafe,” added Van-Tam, although he admitted there’s “not enough trails” to date.
