• Former WWE star Nikki Bella has revealed that doctors found a cyst on her brain.
• Thankfully, the cyst is benign—and she’s feeling grateful for her health.
• The cyst and Bella’s other injuries will likely keep her from returning to the WWE ring.
Nikki Bella, former WWE star and ex-fiancée of John Cena, revealed the scary health problems–including a brain cyst–that led to her retirement in an interview with TMZ Sports.
“They found a cyst on my brain, which thank god, it’s benign,” Bella tells the outlet. “I’m so grateful for my health.”
Most brain cysts are benign, but they can still be serious, particularly if located on areas of the brain that control vital functions, according to the American Brain Tumor Association. Treatment ranges from simply monitoring the cyst for changes to completely removing the mass with surgery. Bella told TMZ Sports that doctors recommended she monitoring “because you never know how it can change.”
The former WWE Divas champion originally received a head and neck operation in 2016 to repair a herniated disk. Earlier this week, Bella appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and revealed that doctors found additional health problems during a check-up.
“Then it came back that I herniated the disk above where I had surgery, I have all this inflammation around the metal, and then I have a cyst on my brain,” Bella told Fallon. “So they were like, ‘You’re done, no more, you’re out.'”
Although Bella won’t be in the ring anytime soon, she doesn’t want to rule out wrestling forever.
“You never know … we’ll see what the man upstairs has in store for me.”
