Anyone who works a night shift knows that it can be difficult to get some shut-eye when the world is bustling outside.
However, a new job opportunity is looking to make things easier for this cohort of employees.
One UK company is looking to hire ‘professional sleepers’ to try out its blackout blinds range and is even willing to pay individuals £500 for their time.
Selected candidates will be enrolled into a nationwide sleep study, to better understand the patterns and disturbances of night workers.
Those taking part will be fitted with sleep monitoring equipment and will have to adopt some changes to their typical routine, such as their sleeping temperature, light sources, environmental sounds and diet.
247 Blinds is the company behind the new position and study – which will take place during October, covering 10 separate night shifts – and five people in total will be hired as these professional sleepers.
Once the study is complete, applicants will be paid £500 no later than November 30 – according to the terms and conditions.
Anyone who typically sleeps between 7am and 6pm can apply for the job – such as delivery drivers, police officers, healthcare workers, taxi drivers and security guards.
However, applications close October 21 – so there’s only a limited time to submit interest.
Jason Peterkin, director at 247 Blinds, says: ‘The last ten years has seen a significant growth in the number of people working through the night. Whilst we’re happy to keep on manufacturing and selling blackout blinds to shift workers, we feel it’s important to understand more about the nuances of daytime sleep.
‘By undertaking this important study, we can use real-life scenarios and data to enable us to develop the most effective products, while sharing our wider findings to help the British public overcome the challenge of daytime sleep.’
