Dr Amir says big toe can reveal diabetes and heart disease
Your body is one big organism where everything is connected and works together.
While you might turn to your chest when looking for warning signs of heart disease, your feet could also ring alarm bells, according to Dr Amir.
Each foot is made up of 26 bones, 30 joints and more than 100 muscles but it is also the home of blood vessels.
The channels through which blood is distributed to body tissues could alert you to health problems, ranging from diabetes to cardiovascular disease.
Speaking on ITV’s show Lorraine, Dr Amir said: “We haul our feet through thousands of steps each day but then many of us neglect them and they can tell you a lot about your health.

“I want everybody to have a look at their feet today. First thing to have a look at is your toes.”
The doctor explained that having cold toes could be a sign of circulatory problems that could point to bigger health issues.
Dr Amir said: “Just like any part of the body, your toes need food and oxygen for good open blood vessels.

“And blood vessels to the toes are tiny so it doesn’t take much to cause any damage or clog them up with fat and that can really lead to cold toes.”
Fortunately, there’s a simple test that you can do anywhere to check if your toes are cold. Dr Amir instructed to press into the toes for five second and then let go.
He said: “The colour [in your toes] should come back within two seconds, that’s a good sign of circulation.

“High-risk people for these circulation problems are those with diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, and high cholesterol.”
Furthermore, spotting any discolouration in your toenails could also signal health problems, ranging from fungal infections to even skin cancer.
If you notice anything unusual in your feet or toenails, the TV doctor recommended getting it checked out.
