Girl Scouts are the cutest, most innovative businesswomen out there, but the tried-and-true tabling method will never go out of style. CNN reports Emerson and Maya, two Girl Scouts in South Carolina, were doing just that on a chilly winter night when a man ended up buying their whole stock of cookies just to help them out.
The girls’ cookie manager Kayla Dillard wrote in a February 22 Facebook post, “It was about 34 degrees outside that night and we were there [outside the store] for about two hours” when the gentleman walked up, bought seven boxes of cookies (which was worth about $40), and told the girls to keep the change.
According to Dillard’s account, he later came back and told the girls, “Pack up all of your cookies. I’m taking them all so y’all can get out of this cold.” The Good Samaritan ended up spending about $540 in total on the Thanks-A-Lots, Caramel deLites, Shortbread, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, S’mores, Thin Mints, and Lemonades.
Though Dillard’s account of the incident went viral last week, the customer hasn’t been identified yet. Dillard told Yahoo! Lifestyle the only thing “he mentioned [was that] he owned several businesses….We assume he was going to give the cookies away.” Many people have reached out to her thinking they know the man pictured above, but she still isn’t sure.
Regardless, this isn’t the first time this year a happy Girl Scout cookie–related incident has gone viral: The actress who plays young Kate on This Is Us sold her cookies at the SAG Awards, while a 10-year-old in California remixed Cardi B’s song “Money” to help unload her stock. Another Girl Scout created her own version of Samoas by putting a shirtless photo of Jason Momoa on the boxes and calling them “Mamoas.” Just so many young geniuses out there.
